Location: 100% remote (within or outside the U.S.)
Classification: Part-time, non-union (5-20 hours/week)
Compensation: $25-$30 per hour
About the role:
You will be performing scripts created by our ASL Curriculum Developer to help children learn ASL. We seek actors who are not only skilled performers, but who are also capable of bringing these well-crafted scripts to life for our students. This role involves making complex concepts accessible and engaging to a wide range of learners.
As an ASL Actor/Actress, you would be filming fun and engaging teaching videos. Knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities and cultures along with a passion to positively impact communities and people who identify as deaf or hard of hearing is a plus.
Scripts are written and doctored, but actors would be encouraged to collaborate with the writers.
The actor will also need to self-tape the videos (generally in front of a green screen). Miaplaza will provide all necessary filming equipment. Actors must do light editing just as they would for a self-tape audition, however, no additional video editing skills are required; our internal video editors would edit the footage.
Additional skills that would set you apart from other candidates would be production experience, along with a willingness to film videos for our social media platforms.
Our student base is growing rapidly and we are currently hiring for multiple positions across several departments! Our expansion stems from two key factors: our commitment to providing exceptional educational content to our students by scaling our team with passionate individuals, and our pursuit of new opportunities to enhance our students’ learning experiences by broadening our capabilities and expertise as an organization.
Requirements:
- Professional on-camera acting experience.
- Fluent ASL skills are required. Experience with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community may be helpful in this role.

- Access to filming space that is at least 10’ x 10’
- Independent and self-motivated. Being remote, you will need to hold yourself accountable.
- Proactive. You’ll make a habit of seeking out ways to make the content better.
- Trust & integrity. You do what is right, don’t cut corners, and are open about your work.
- Consistent availability of 5-20 hours per week. Due to the nature of our business, filming needs may fluctuate throughout the year as our curriculum developers are writing new scripts for new lessons on our site. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have flexibility in their schedule.
- Teleprompter experience is a plus.
